Each bite of this creamy almond turrón is a delightful blend of roasted almonds and sweet honey. The almonds are grounded almost smooth, with just a hit of crunchiness. Serve this rich, sweet treat with freshly brewed coffee or a glass of sparkling Cava or Champagne.
The master confectioners at Vicens roast almonds freshly each day. The almonds are stone ground into almond butter, then blended with pure local honey. This is formed into bricks and rested so that most of the almond oil drips away. Finally each brick is cut by hand into bars that are packaged for you to enjoy. This is one of the most traditional styles of Spanish turrón candy.
Torrons Vicens began in 1775 in the village of Agramunt in Catalonia. This special turrón making region has protected status (PGI) to protect the turrón quality and the candy-making traditions from imitations. Turrón with this status must follow strict methods and can only be made in the village of Agramunt.
In 2016, Angel Velasco, the master turrón maker at Vicens, was awarded the title of “Best Pastry Chef in the World” at the prestigious Madrid Fusion food show. He was joined on stage by famed pastry chef Albert Adrià, who collaborated with him to create a line of dynamic new turrón flavors, such as Gin Tonic and Arroz con Leche, which are available at La Tienda.
