This delicious sausage captures the flavor of Spain's famed chorizo, but without the meat! We were impressed by its rich, smoky taste. Calabizo vegan chorizo is a perfect ingredient for dishes like sautéed vegetables, empanadas, pasta or tortilla española. Of course, the texture is quite different than a pork chorizo, but the flavor is surprisingly similar.
Calabizo is made with butternut squash, extra virgin olive oil, onion, garlic and spices. Packed in casings, the chorizo is cured and smoked over oak wood with no preservatives.
Calabizo vegan chorizo was developed by three enterprising women, Edurne, Sofía and Keila. These three friends from Galicia come from different backgrounds with a shared vision - to create a plant-based chorizo following traditional curing methods to promote a healthy lifestyle and more sustainable production.
Calabizo is delicious and healthy, low in fat and calories and high in fiber. It is a good source of antioxidants and vitamins.
To serve this chorizo, remove it from its casing and add to your favorite recipe.
